London, South Kensington

Since joining the London Impressionist/Modern Sale week calendar in 2011 as the Part III sale, the Christie’s South Kensington sales have become the singular venue for new and experienced collectors to discover lesser-known artists and to explore less-familiar works by well-established names. Record results in 2012 show that Christie's specialists have found the perfect formula to attract not only first-time and one-off buyers of decorative pieces, but also collectors and connoisseurs of Impressionism and early 20th century Avant-garde art. Already established as the market leader in Picasso ceramics, the globally observed sale in June 2012 of Picasso ceramics from the Madoura Pottery Collection saw numerous world record prices smashed and an unprecedented number of new buyers and online bidding activity.

This season, South Kensington is excited to offer their finest and broadest range of paintings, sculptures and works on paper to date. Post-Impressionist works from private collections are particularly well represented with colourful works by Camoin, Manguin and Lebasque, while an eclectic mix of Modern and Surreal works on paper are led by Dalí, Picasso, Man Ray and Buffet. The curious art lover will enjoy discovering artists like Adolf Hoffmeister, a Czech writer and illustrator, Victor Vignon, a contemporary of Sisley and Pissarro, and Alphonse Quizet, who taught Utrillo but has not yet shared his student’s notoriety. The sale concludes with a group of 60 ceramic works from Picasso and Jean Cocteau.
